Sometimes I don’t really know what I am doing and what it means, I just know I need to do it.
Expression often comes in several forms and shapes, we don’t always know what a feeling will instigate and visually produce. I believe being an Artist (in all its disciplines) is a demand for an alternative method of catharsis that we need as much as it needs us.

Maria BBrito is an interdisciplinary Artist.

Revolving around the experimentation and interaction between alternative forms of image-making, the work ranges from deeply philosophical and somewhat dystopian science fiction installations to reflections on what it means to occupy a concrete space in time.

These universes inhabit the play space between the virtual and the actualised, often inviting the spectator to reflect upon the multitude of choices that one makes whilst dwelling in the non-being.

Albeit heavily informed by theory, the work tends to focus on the affect and bonds one has to themselves and their physical form and the narcissistic necessity of expression and understanding. The craving of being seen yet remaining hidden.
